How This Guide Is Researched, Sourced and Updated

Every fact here is checked against named public sources, and anything that changes is dated and corrected.

How a page here gets from a public record to something you can read.

The Starting Point Is Always the CMA Uganda Public Register

The first check for any page on this site is the Capital Markets Authority of Uganda. Its public list of licensed and approved persons sits at cmauganda.co.ug, and it is the only local licence list we treat as authoritative.

That register covers unit trust managers, fund managers, investment advisers, stock brokers, custodians, dealers and trustees. An online or leveraged foreign-exchange broker is not one of those categories. A firm offering that service to Ugandan residents is therefore working under a licence issued somewhere else, and we say so plainly rather than implying local cover that does not exist.

Where a page needs a number we cannot verify, we do not print one. We point you to the source instead: the CMA Uganda list, the broker's own funding page, or your Mobile Money app.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Search the legal entity from the broker's own footer, not the brand.

Local Details Are Checked Against Ugandan Conditions, Not Imported Ones

Uganda runs on East Africa Time, UTC+3, and all session hours on this site are written in EAT. Sydney runs 00:00 to 09:00, Tokyo 03:00 to 12:00, London 11:00 to 20:00, and New York 15:00 to 00:00. The London and New York overlap is 15:00 to 20:00 EAT, which is the busiest window for most readers here.

Money movement is described in the rails you actually use. Mobile Money is the main one, alongside MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, bank transfer and card. Deposit and withdrawal pages are written around those methods, not around foreign payment habits.

The currency throughout is the Ugandan shilling, UGX or USh. We do not convert into other currencies or assume a bank account outside Uganda.

How deposits and withdrawals travel

Mobile wallet — limits set by the wallet provider and the broker
Airtel Money
Mobile wallet — limits set by the wallet provider and the broker
Bank transfer

Card
Card payment — limits set by your card issuer and the broker

Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Confirm both in the provider's app and on the broker's funding page, and withdraw to the same account you paid from.

What We Refuse to Publish, Even When Readers Ask

We do not name a broker as licensed, safe or best. Broker facts change faster than any static page, and a licence held in one country says nothing about your protection in another. The register at cmauganda.co.ug and the broker's own legal documents are where that question belongs.

We do not print spreads, fees, minimum deposits, tax rates or licence numbers unless they come from a source we can cite. Where a page would need such a figure, it tells you where to look it up on the day you read it.

We make no promises or estimates of profit. Nothing on this site should be read as a claim that you can earn a particular amount, because nobody can know that in advance.

A figure with no source and no date is a guess with good manners. Anything we could not trace is left out rather than printed from memory.

How Corrections and Updates Work

Pages are reviewed when a source changes. If CMA Uganda alters its register categories, if session hours shift with daylight saving in London or New York, or if a payment rail changes, the affected pages are rewritten rather than patched.

We do not use named authors, awards, testimonials or statistics we cannot show you. If a claim has no source behind it, it does not go on the page.

If you spot something wrong, treat it as a fault to be fixed. A guide that quietly keeps an old fact is worse than one that admits it does not know.

Hours are shown for the clocks in force today: London is on GMT until 28 March, New York is on EDT until 1 November. Uganda does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.

A Register Entry and a Working Payment Rail Are Two Different Checks

A licence entry on the CMA Uganda list tells you the firm is permitted to operate. It does not tell you whether UGX can actually reach your trading account. Those are separate questions, checked at separate places.

The practical test is the funding page of the broker itself. Look for the deposit methods offered to Ugandan residents. If Mobile Money is not listed, the route is likely a bank transfer, a card, or a third-party service, and each has its own timing.

This distinction matters because a reader can confirm a firm on cmauganda.co.ug, open an account, and then discover that the only funded route is slow or unavailable. Check the rail before committing, not after.

Uganda runs on Mobile Money. MTN MoMo and Airtel Money are the everyday rails. Bank transfer and card exist but are used less often for small retail funding. The broker's own funding page is the only place that says which of these it accepts.

What a broker asks for before a withdrawal

National ID card or passport
Who you are
Selfie with the ID document
That the document is in your hands

Brokers usually also ask for proof of address; requirements differ per firm. The account-opening page of the broker lists what that firm accepts.

Mobile Money Deposits Fail for Boring Reasons, Not Dramatic Ones

Most failed deposits are not fraud. They are wrong wallet numbers, an agent float that has run out, a name mismatch between the wallet and the trading account, or a transaction left pending at the wrong step in the app.

The order of operations matters. Start the deposit from inside the broker's funding page so the reference is attached. Then approve the prompt in the Mobile Money app. Do not send money first and try to match it afterwards.

If a deposit is pending, the Mobile Money app shows the transaction status. That is the first place to look, before contacting anyone. The app record is the evidence, not a screenshot of a chat.

Keep the confirmation message. If a deposit is disputed, the wallet statement and the app reference are what a support desk will ask for. Without them, the case is much harder to resolve.

EAT Is Not a Detail: It Sets When You Can Reach Anyone

Uganda runs on East Africa Time, UTC+3, all year. There is no daylight saving shift. That sounds minor until you need to contact a broker whose staff sit in another region.

A support desk in London or Sydney is open during its own business hours, which fall at different points in the Ugandan day. A query sent at 9am EAT may not be read until the following Ugandan morning. Plan around that, not against it.

The same applies to withdrawal cut-off times. If a broker processes payouts on a foreign schedule, a request made on a Ugandan Friday afternoon may not move until the next working window. The broker's own funding page states its processing times.

For anything involving the regulator, CMA Uganda keeps its own published hours. Check cmauganda.co.ug for how and when it accepts contact, rather than assuming a Ugandan public office is reachable at any hour.

A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. The licence question is answered on the register, not in the app store.

A Licence Does Not Cover the App You Download

A firm can hold a CMA Uganda licence and still have its name used by copycat apps, cloned websites, or social media accounts that have no connection to it. The licence covers the firm, not every page that borrows its branding.

The check is to compare the contact details, domain and company name on the CMA Uganda licensed persons list with the ones in front of you. If they differ, stop. Do not deposit while you resolve the mismatch.

This is a common failure mode in Uganda. A reader searches for a broker, taps the first sponsored result, and lands on a page that looks correct. The register entry is the anchor, and the search result is not.

Never treat a licence number quoted in an advert as proof. Numbers can be copied. The list at cmauganda.co.ug is the source, and the firm's own published details must match it.

Withdrawals Are the Real Test of a Funding Route

Deposits are usually easy. Withdrawals are where a funding route shows its limits. A method that accepts money quickly may return it slowly, through a different channel, or only to the same wallet it came from.

Before funding, read how the broker pays out to Ugandan clients. Mobile Money payouts, bank transfers and card refunds each have their own rules about where the money can land and who must be named on the receiving account.

Name matching is the usual sticking point. Money sent from one person's wallet and withdrawn to another person's bank account will normally be held. Keep the sending and receiving details consistent from the first deposit.

If a withdrawal is delayed, the broker's funding page states its processing window, and the Mobile Money app or bank statement shows what actually happened. Use both before raising a dispute, and keep the records.

Who checks the facts on this site?

Facts are checked against named public sources, chiefly the CMA Uganda licensed persons list at cmauganda.co.ug, plus the broker's own published documents and the major payment providers. We do not rely on memory or on what other guides say. If a fact cannot be traced to a source, it is left out.

Why do you not list licensed forex brokers for Uganda?

Because the CMA Uganda register covers unit trust managers, fund managers, investment advisers, stock brokers, custodians, dealers and trustees, and an online or leveraged foreign-exchange broker is not one of those categories. A firm serving Ugandan residents is working under a licence issued somewhere else. Naming one as safe would go beyond what the register can support.

How often is the guide updated?

Pages are reviewed whenever a source changes, including CMA Uganda register updates, daylight saving shifts that move London and New York session times in EAT, and changes to Mobile Money or bank rails. Corrections are made to the page itself rather than noted in passing. Nothing is left standing on the grounds that it was once true.

Trading forex and CFDs on margin carries a high risk of losing more than you deposit. Most retail accounts lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice.
