Prop Firm Evaluations and Funded Accounts for Ugandan Traders
A prop firm evaluation is a test you pay to take; pass it and the firm gives you a funded account to trade.
Updated Oct 2026 · how we rate brokers
A prop firm evaluation is a paid test, not a job application
A prop firm, short for proprietary trading firm, sells you a trading test called an evaluation or challenge. You trade a demo account under the firm's rules for a set period. If you hit the profit target without breaking the loss limits, the firm may give you a funded account.
The funded account is the firm's money, not yours. You trade it under a contract and usually receive a share of any profit. The firm sets the rules, and it can change or end the arrangement if you breach them.
This is different from opening an account with a broker. With a broker you risk your own money. With a prop firm you risk the evaluation fee, which is often non-refundable.
| Platform | What it is | Who makes it |
|---|---|---|
| MetaTrader 4 | The older standard; expert advisors and a large script ecosystem | MetaQuotes |
| MetaTrader 5 | The newer build; more order types and timeframes | MetaQuotes |
| cTrader | Depth of market and a different order model | Spotware |
| The broker's own app | Usually simpler, and tied to that one firm | The broker |
A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. The licence question is answered on the register, not in the app store.
What you actually pay for, and how the rules work
The fee buys access to the evaluation. It does not buy a funded account. Many traders pay several times before passing, or never pass at all.
Typical rules include a daily loss limit, an overall loss limit, a profit target, and a time limit. Some firms also restrict news trading, holding over the weekend, or using certain strategies. Read the rulebook before you pay.
The profit split, the size of the funded account, and the payout schedule are all set by the firm. There is no standard. A firm that looks generous on one point may be strict on another.

A figure with no source and no date is a guess with good manners. Anything we could not trace is left out rather than printed from memory.
Ugandan traders should check two things before paying
First, check where the firm is licensed and what that licence covers. The CMA Uganda register at cmauganda.co.ug lists unit trust managers, fund managers, investment advisers, stock brokers, custodians, dealers and trustees. An online or leveraged forex broker is not one of those categories.
That means a firm offering prop firm evaluations or funded forex accounts to Ugandan residents is working under a licence issued somewhere else. The CMA Uganda register will not show it. You can check the firm's own site for the name of its regulator, then check that regulator's public register.
Second, check how you pay and how you get paid. Mobile Money is the main rail in Uganda, and MTN MoMo and Airtel Money are widely used. Some firms accept card or bank transfer instead. Payouts may arrive by a different route than your deposit, so confirm the payout method before you start.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Search the legal entity from the broker's own footer, not the brand.
How to compare prop firms without trusting a top ten list
Search for a top ten list and you will find pages that rank firms by affiliate payout, not by how well they treat traders. Treat those lists as advertising, not as reviews.
Instead, compare the rulebook. Look at the daily loss limit, the overall loss limit, the profit target, the time limit, and the profit split. Look at what happens if you breach a rule. Look at how long payouts take and what documents you must provide.
Then check the firm's funding page for the current fee and account sizes. Prices change. A figure you read in a forum post may be out of date. The firm's own page is the only place that is binding.
Finally, ask whether the firm is regulated for the service it is selling you. If the answer is vague, that is information.
What a broker asks for before a withdrawal
- National ID card or passport
- Who you are
- Selfie with the ID document
- That the document is in your hands
Brokers usually also ask for proof of address; requirements differ per firm. The account-opening page of the broker lists what that firm accepts.
A funded account is not the same thing as money in your hand
Passing an evaluation changes your status with the firm, not your bank balance. The firm still holds the capital and sets the withdrawal schedule. Until a payout clears into your own Mobile Money wallet or bank account, the money is theirs to manage.
Read the payout clause before you pay for any test. It tells you how often you can request a withdrawal, which days it is processed, and what method is used. If the page does not state this plainly, treat it as a warning sign.
Keep your own record of every payout request, the date you sent it and the date it arrived. If a firm later disputes your history, your own notes are the only evidence you control. Screenshots of the dashboard help too.

| How often it moves | Every trading day | — |
| The rate your account uses | Your broker's own conversion | The broker's rate card |
| Symbol on this site | USh | — |
An indicative rate is for sizing a position in your head, not for settling one. The gap between it and your broker's conversion is part of what a trade costs you.
Separate the fee you pay from the balance you trade
The evaluation fee leaves your Mobile Money or bank account once. The trading balance shown on the dashboard is not yours and never was. Mixing the two in your head makes small losses feel like theft when they are just the test working as designed.
Budget the fee the way you budget any other expense, and treat it as spent. Do not fund an evaluation with money you need for rent, school fees or stock. A failed test is a normal outcome, not an emergency.
If you want to know what a firm charges, read its own funding page. Prices change and vary by account size, so the only current figure is the one the firm publishes today.
How deposits and withdrawals travel
- MTN MoMo
- Mobile wallet — limits set by the wallet provider and the broker
- Airtel Money
- Mobile wallet — limits set by the wallet provider and the broker
- Bank transfer
- Limits set by your bank and the broker
- Card
- Card payment — limits set by your card issuer and the broker
Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Confirm both in the provider's app and on the broker's funding page, and withdraw to the same account you paid from.
The order of operations matters more than the firm you pick
Check the firm against the CMA Uganda licensed persons list first, at cmauganda.co.ug. Then read the rulebook. Then check the payment method. Then pay. Doing these in a different order means you may pay before you discover a problem.
The most common failure is paying first and reading afterwards. A trader sees an offer, sends money through MTN MoMo or Airtel Money, then finds a rule about news trading or holding over the weekend that they cannot live with.
Write your own short checklist before you open any firm's website. Three or four items is enough. A written list keeps the decision slow when the marketing is fast.
A trading day on an EAT clock
- Busiest window
- 15:00-20:00 EAT — London and New York open together
- Thinnest stretch
- 00:00-09:00 EAT — Sydney alone, wider spreads
- European open
- 11:00-20:00 EAT
- US open
- 15:00-00:00 EAT
- Closed
- Friday New York close until the Sydney open on Monday
Hours are shown for the clocks in force today: London is on GMT until 28 March, New York is on EDT until 1 November. Uganda does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.
Mobile Money receipts are your proof, so keep them
MTN MoMo and Airtel Money both produce a transaction message. Save it. It carries a reference number, a time and an amount, and it is the first thing a firm or a support desk will ask for if a payment is disputed.
Screenshot the confirmation and back it up somewhere outside the phone. Phones get lost, replaced and wiped. A receipt that only exists in one SMS thread is not really a record.
If a firm asks you to pay to a personal number rather than a business account, stop and ask why. Legitimate businesses collect through accounts in their own name. That question costs nothing and protects you.
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| A fixed monthly return, promised in advance | Ask which licence permits it, then look the firm up on the CMA Uganda licensed persons list. |
| A deposit asked for in gift cards or vouchers | Check the broker's own funding page: firms list bank, card and wallet rails, not vouchers. |
| Someone offering to trade the account for you | Managing money for a client is a separate permission. The register says whether a firm holds it. |
| A withdrawal released only after a new payment | Read the withdrawal terms you agreed to. A fee invented at payout time is not in them. |
None of this is a judgement about any firm. Each line is a check you can run yourself, starting at cmauganda.co.ug.
Timezone and market hours affect how you use a funded account
Uganda runs on EAT, UTC+3. That places the London session in your afternoon and the New York session in your evening. Many traders here can watch the market after work without changing their sleep.
The Asian session runs through your night. If a firm restricts trading during certain hours, or if you hold positions overnight, that window is the one to think about. Read the rule in your own local time, not the firm's.
Some firms set daily loss limits that reset on their own clock, which may not be midnight in Kampala. Check when the trading day starts for them. A limit that resets at a time you did not expect can end an account quietly.
Is a prop firm evaluation the same as a forex broker account?
No. A broker account holds your own money and you trade it directly. A prop firm evaluation is a paid test on a demo account. If you pass, the firm may give you a funded account that uses its money, under its rules, with a profit split.
Can I pay for a prop firm evaluation with Mobile Money in Uganda?
Some firms accept Mobile Money, and MTN MoMo and Airtel Money are the common rails in Uganda. Others take card or bank transfer. Check the firm's payment page for the methods it currently supports, and check the payout method separately, because it may differ from the deposit method.
How do I check whether a prop firm is licensed in Uganda?
Go to the CMA Uganda licensed persons list at cmauganda.co.ug. That register covers unit trust managers, fund managers, investment advisers, stock brokers, custodians, dealers and trustees. An online or leveraged forex broker is not one of those categories, so a firm offering prop firm services to Ugandan residents is working under a licence issued somewhere else. Check the firm's site for its regulator, then check that regulator's register.
